Because some pain doesn’t just go away on it’s own.
EMDR Therapy is a science backed approach that can help you release trauma held in the body and mind - gently and at your pace.
EMDR Therapy
Reprocessing the Past to Live in the Present
Are past traumas, painful memories, or overwhelming experiences affecting your daily life? If so, you are not alone. Traumatic experiences can leave deep emotional wounds — affecting how we feel, think, and relate to ourselves and others.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a clinically proven and evidence-based approach that helps your brain process traumatic memories safely, reducing the emotional charge they tend to carry. During EMDR sessions, you’ll work to recall distressing memories while activating the brain’s natural healing mechanisms - guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation. Basically, our past experiences have gotten “stuck” in the brain and body and EMDR therapy helps release these stuck memories safely, allowing your mind and body to process them naturally. This may seem silly, but research has shown time and time again that this treatment approach can help your brain effectively reprocess memories, allowing them to feel less overwhelming and more manageable while also improving your ability to respond to trauma triggers in more healthy and adaptive ways. Research has even shown that EMDR can provide faster relief from trauma symptoms than traditional talk therapy alone. Now, this process may seem unfamiliar and maybe even scary, but sessions are collaborative and paced according to your comfort. You will remain in control as you gently work through your memories and I will support you every step of the way!
How EMDR Works
EMDR involves structured phases:
History & Planning – We will explore your individual needs and identify the target memories you wish to reprocess and heal
Preparation – You will learn new coping and grounding strategies so that you are confident and well equipped before we ever begin processing any of your identified painful memories
Desensitization – We will activate your brain’s natural healing mechanisms through guided eye movements or tapping in order to help you reprocess your painful memories
Installation & Body Scan – We will work to replace any core negative beliefs associated with your painful memories with a more positive and adaptive perspective
Closure & Reevaluation – We will regularly review and reinforce the progress you have made in order to ensure that your memories are no longer interfering with your daily life
